WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER

We are looking for a Water Resources Engineer who will play a key role in the management, technical delivery and quality of water resources design projects.  This is a perfect opportunity for a talented professional to take the next step in their career, joining our Water Resources Team in taking on technical challenges and working on a variety of projects including: watercourse realignment and stormwater management planning, hydraulic analyses of sewer systems and channels, floodplain mapping, erosion & sediment control plans, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed studies, computer modeling and design tasks associated with storm water management works in support of development projects, subwatershed plans, floodplain mapping analyses, hydrologic analyses, erosion and sediment control studies, etc.
  • Contribute to watercourse realignment and stormwater management planning, design and implementation;
  • Conduct hydraulic analyses of sewer systems and channels;
  • Complete Master Plan / Subwatershed Planning and Environmental Implementation studies;
  • Coordinate project needs and deliverables with other teams, clients, and consultants;
  • Certification of stormwater infrastructure.
  • Functional Servicing Studies and Detailed Design support.
  • Permitting and approvals.
  • Water resources policy studies and guideline development.
  • Public and stakeholder consultation;
  • Provide direction and oversight to technical support staff to fulfill project needs;
  • Contribute to, and lead, proposal/bid opportunities;
  • Interact with clients and build client relationships;
  • Produce reports and correspondence with a focus on high quality, clarity, and technical justification;
  • Manage and train junior staff
  • Complete field assessments, analysis and evaluations as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of water resources engineering experience in consulting engineering or in a regulatory agency;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or EIT with Professional Engineers Ontario. Consideration will also be given to applicants who do not have a P. Eng. designation.
  • Water resources project experience in the public or private sector, particularly with land development.
  • Ability to work independently and within a supportive team environment.
  • Knowledge of provincial and municipal environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Creativity, understanding of the gray area between theory and practical application.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage projects, deadlines, and clients.
  • Strong analytical skills with knowledge in hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling platforms, and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and technical writing skills.

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer with strong technical, project management and leadership skills to lead land development projects. This is a perfect opportunity for a talented professional to take on technical challenges, work on projects from inception to implementation and lead multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities:

  • Provide preliminary and detailed engineering design for land development projects;
  • Prepare functional servicing plans and reports;
  • Work with private sector clients, liaise with government approval agencies, coordinate with utility companies, and work with key stakeholders;
  • Liaise with approval agencies and obtain required approvals and permits;
  • Oversee the preparation of reports, drawings and other design documents prior to submission;
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff members to foster career development and recognize employees for their contributions;
  • Demonstrate Urbantech’s capabilities and quality standards by determining client's needs through well prepared proposals, budgets and time management of technical field staff;
  • Take the lead in regular business development activities to foster the company’s growth.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of local experience gained in the consulting industry.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or C.E.T.
  • Experience as lead design engineer / design project manager, with a focus on land development.
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency, and attention to detail; track record of quality work products.
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making and coaching skills, especially the ability to train and mentor professionals.
  • Proven project management and design skills with a demonstrated ability to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Knowledge of provincial and municipal environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Creativity, understanding of the gray area between theory and practical application.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage projects, deadlines, and clients.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and technical writing skills.
  • Collaborative mindset, able to build long-term, successful relationships with clients and project teams.

CAD TECHNICIAN

We are looking for a CAD Technician with experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for land development projects.    This is a perfect opportunity for a talented professional to take the next step in their career, joining our Design Team in taking on technical challenges and working on a variety of projects.
Responsibilities:

  • Production of drawings for a variety of land development projects.  Including:
    • grading, drainage and site servicing;
    • natural channels, culverts, and flood plain mapping;
    • stormwater management and low-impact design facilities;
    • plan and profiles and sections;
    • erosion and sediment control and construction staging plans;
    • as-constructed drawings;
    • site utilities including utility coordination;
    • general drawing notes and specifications.
  • Submission package preparation and coordination;
  • Assist with quantity take-offs for tendering;
  • Preparation of figures and graphics in addition to detailed engineering drawings, when required;
  • Preparation of earthworks analysis / 3D surface comparison;
  • Training and mentoring interns and junior staff when required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree, with a focus on drafting / municipal engineering using either AutoCAD / AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • 3+ years of drafting & design experience working in 2D & 3D on municipal projects including roads, utilities, and subdivisions;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software including Excel;
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply design standards and guidelines;
  • Ability to work well within a dynamic team of engineers and technologists as well as working under limited supervision;
  • Proficiency with reading, analyzing, checking engineering drawings;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interaction and correspondence with design team and clients.
  • Eager to learn and take on new challenges, with a strong work ethic and desire to succeed.
  • Knowledge of GIS, surveying, and the land development process is an asset.
